Better Luck Tomorrow

This was absolutley the best thing that we did in classs all semester. I really enjoyed this movie. I think that it really was a great film. I love the fact that they actually showed another aspect of people of a different race doing “bad things” and getting in trouble other than the African Amerivan race. This was a good movie it had many good points to it and over all I really enjoyed watching it.

Asian American Film making….

This article takes us back to a lot of key terms and phrases that we have already read and discussed. Some key words or ideas that we can go back to are:

  • racism
  • discrimination
  • identity
  • yellow
  • assimilation

This article also discusses the struggles that Asian American film maker s face in trying to make and produce movies. The article then then talks on four movies that never made it as far as just film festivals.

Cho Show

Well to be honest when I first started watching this, I was like why do we have to watch this. It was not funny to me at all. Then as I kept watching, I realized that I had gotten really into this show and her comedy. I really didn’t know much about Margaret Cho except for the fact that her show used to air before or after flavor of love on VH1 I’m not quite sure. Then I started to pay attention and realized that she used to have another show in her younger years where she played an “all American” Asian American girl on TV. As I was watching I was just listening to alot of her many quotes and heard a few funny ones:

  • “Every dog has his day, and every Diva needs her gay”.
  • “KKK mart”

I also would like to point out that the screen writers kept telling her that she wasn’t Asian enough and kept bringing in trainers to help her, but it wasn’t the fact that she wasn’t Asian enough its that she doesn’t fit the generalization that people have for Asian Americans.

End of Native Speaker….

So this book was actually a really good book. Although I was lost for a majority of the book, in the end it all came together. When we were in class I was and we did the worksheet and made a prediction on what would happen at the end of the story, my prediction was that they were not going to live happily ever after. Funny huh! I guess I was somewhat right, and somewhat wrong. Henry and his wife did actually get back together, but I do not think that they Will be living happily ever after, Henry and Lelia have a lot of issues to work out, there main issue to me is that they need to, go to counseling for the death of their son, although this is not something that they are going to be able to get over this is an issue that they need to put behind them, because in my opinion once this is done they will be able to work out a lot more issues within their marriage.

Native Speaker 3/Class discussion

This section of the reading gave me a lot of insight on the character John Kwang. We see that he is a man of many different personality’s. He tries to play a role in which we all think that he is a good man, but then in other parts of the story we see that he really isn’t and he is really a sneaky person. We also see in this part of the reading where Henry is trying to figure him out as well. As we continue to read we also see that Kwang is def. not a “sterotypical” Asian-American Man.

Native Speaker 2

As I kept reading I discovered how there son Mitt died. I found this to be very interesting. Actually in my reading I discovered alot of interesting things in the book, many that helped me understand a little more of what was going on but still leaving me in the dark a bit.  Working in the groups also really helped me to get a grasp on the insides of the story. This section of the reading also dealt a lot with the relationship that henry had with his father. Henry talks alot about how his father was a very traditional man and every thing he did was expected of a korean man. This is also interesting to me because it would seem as though if he says how tradutional his father was and how his father basically played by all of the “Korean rules” why would henry be so different, abd be the total oppisite. ….

Native Speaker 1

Wow where to start…for starters this book is confusing the heck out of me. Before coming to class I had no idea of what was going on in this novel.  The beginning so far is really well i dont know any way else to say this but well Ill just say it..dry. I was so lost. I stuck between trying to figure out what his profession is to trying to figure out why his wife left him all of those letters and that list. Honestly I feel as though his wife has a lot of internal issues in which she needs to figure out for herself and that is why it was so easy for her to judge and note all of Henrys faults…..As the novel goes on I am hoping that everything will just all into place, and I will no longer be as confused as I am right now with this novel.

Wiki…

So this wiki has really been a learning experience. I have never worked on one before, but by workin on this wiki I feel as though I have learned quite a bit. I learned how to embed videos into a page, and also how to include pictures. I also learned alot more about the LA Riots Probably more than I would have learned any other time. The riots to me are a very important part of history. Also from this project I worked in a group, although we really didn’t work together alot I feel as though everyone did a great job, in putting all of the work together and in all the wiki was a success. I also was very nervous when we had to present in class but after we got up and actually presented the project I felt very confiedent that we did a goo job and the wiki and the group came out great!!
